Creating a Website: Homepage
Today we started making our own website. I started going to Wix and then I chose a template to my website. This is the template I chose for my website.
My next step was to check the homepage and it was visible and therefore I went to the left hand tools menu and clicked on 'pages and menu'. Then I clicked the home and clicked the three dots and then I chose 'show in the menu'. Then I changed the text name of the site to my own name. Then I chose a font/typography that I will use for my website.
Then I clicked on 'pages and menu' in the left hand tool . I deleted the pages which I did not need to by clicked on the three dots and clicked on delete. Then I checked four pages which I wanted and they are: Home, About, Portfolio and Contact. Then I checked them in navigation bar that are visible.
I will keep this post updated with any adjustments and changes I make...
Then I changed the text font to ' bodoni poster' and changed the text size to 65pts. And then I added subheading for my subject area and changed the size to 20pts. Then I dragged both my name and subject to the header and now they are visible on all pages.
My next step was to check header and design navigation bar. I didn't have a navigation bar in my template. I chose my navigation bar and changed the size and put it in header. I liked the navigation bar so I didn't make any changes in navigation bar.
Finally, I changed my background image which I found in unsplash for copyright free. I changed by clicking the background and then in dialog box I chose image and upload image to my site files, I clicked on image and then page. Then I made adjustments to fit the image and changed the background color of header and footer. Then I previewed my page and clicked on save. This is first draft of my website homepage.
Now I'm gonna check the mobile view and I'm gonna arrange the page. This is my mobile view.
I changed the ' back the top' icon then I placed the icon where I wanted the put. Then I changed the image to fit more properly. I chose an image to fit portrait orientation. Then I changed the size of social media icon and placed under my name and my subject. The menu icon was hidden on mobile view so I clicked 'hidden on mobile' and then clicked to 'show'. Now it is visible in my mobile view.
Good work - well done
