Portfolio Design Research

Image
In this post I am gonna research some interior design portfolio examples and write about that I like. Then I will choose my portfolio design and start doing my design boards. First I opened Behance website and searched for interior design portfolios.  First portfolio that I looked is this one. At first I chose this because of the cover, it is simple and show the interior design subject. Then I examined the rest of portfolio. It divided two sections; one section for image from project and some description of this project and keywords and other section for colour palette, design board and floor plans. It organized well that what she wanted to tell and show in her portfolio. In the design boards she avoided unnecessary information about project and this is good for clarity.  In this portfolio I liked the usage of colour palette and concept board together with in harmony. Also I liked the keywords section under the description of project. However, I think description and keywords ...

Website Update

Image
In this post I will update my website and then add my project in my portfolio page. Before I started editing I checked all the social media links to see if they works and connected to my links.  Then I checked the misspellings and  did proofread. Then checked all the buttons in the website and hide the UX testing and feedback page from the menu.  First I started editing the website with adding a new page from the site pages and menu section  which is in left hand lane. Then I named my page as 'art portfolio project'. I will change the name to my project name when I decide to my project name. Then I placed the page under the portfolio page. Then I went to my art portfolio project page and added a gallery to show my project details in there. I chose showcase gallery that I can put my concept boards. Then I added a button that goes back to the main portfolio page and change the name as 'back to portfolio'.  Used the same design with previous project for consistency...

Further Research: Lightings and Furniture

Image
In this post I will research lightings and furniture that I will use in my project. I researched lightings in my initial research but my idea developed and changed after that research. In my initial research I researched dim lightings for fine dining restaurant idea. Now I am designing an independent cafĂ© for gen z. I want to use brighter and more vibrant lighting in my project.  I want to use LED lighting in most parts of my project. There are many areas of use as well as many color options. LED lighting is the most eco-friendly and cleanest was of lighting. Long life, energy efficiency, design flexibility, low voltage, zero UV emissions and durable quality other benefits of using LED lighting for lighting. ( IUP) I am thinking to use in toilets as a spot lights, in lamps hanging from ceiling  and also as a decorations on the walls. Hidden lightings gives the space chic and elegant atmosphere such as in the image. I can use these hidden lightings in toilets and the wal...

Materials and Sustainability

Image
Oak is an eco-friendly, environmental and sustainable material to use in buildings and furniture. Texture and natural colour of the oak wood gives a beautiful appearance. Also it is a natural source that we can find in almost everywhere because oak frames made from hardwood trees. Additionally, oak is a very strong and long-term product and this means oak also minimizes the waste. Oak is a naturally durable timber with a natural resistance to both insect attack and rot, making it almost maintenance free  ( English Oak Buildings). I want to use mostly natural and local sources as much as possible.  I am thinking to use this oak material for window seat table. I want to use this material because I am going to put this table in front of the windows and I want simple and chic look from outside. It has also good texture and appearance and it will fit the overall cafĂ© atmosphere.   Other natural material that I want to use in my project is rattan. Rapid growth rate one the...

Project Plan Update: Week 7

Image
While we are in week 7, I checked the project sign off sheet and the process that I have been done by so far for my project. I finished most of the research posts that I have to finish. I need to add materials and furniture and lightning research as we discussed with my tutor. I need to finish my 3D outcome in Homebyme and do more 2D concept sketches. In conclusion, I have to research about lightnings, furniture and materials that I am going to use in my project. Also have to draw my 2D sketches. Here is the link to my project plan .  Rise Brunch On the Blog post you must have the following posts: Welcome and Icebreaker - Done Initial Ideas - Done Initial Research - Done Project Statement - Done Project Plan and at least one project update - Done Development of your project work - object lesson - Done Development of your project work - Skills Week - Done 3× Further research posts on concept, techniques/materials - To be completed (materials and furniture) 3×Process of making ...

Farm Cup Coffee Shop by Liqui Design

Image
I chose this Farm Cup Coffee Shop by Liqui Design as my second research. I chose this coffee shop because it gave me a warm, lively and natural atmosphere when I first saw it. Farm Cup Coffee Shop which is located in Los Angeles is cafe during the day and also work as a cocktail bar at night.  As we can see in the picture there is bar counter in curved shape with bar stools. Bar counter is made from natural wood and they used same material on the bar stools sitting part. Under the bar counter covered with white rectangle marbles and also under the bar stools painted in white. The cabinet on which the led lights are mounted above the bar is also designed in the same colour as the bar counter. This symmetry created a beautiful appearance.  The bar counter caught my attention because I also want to design a coffee counter like this curved shape and want to put high chairs around the counter. I found a concept sketch for bar counter in this cafe design. I can see how its similar i...

Colour Palette

Image
In this I will research some colour palette examples and decide my own colour palette. In my project I want to make my cafe warm and comfortable for costumers and also outstanding with colouring and decorations. There is some key points to choose correct colour palette for project. Balancing colours is the most important key for creating colour palette. Using a mix of light and dark shades to create depth and interest. Too much of one can overwhelm the space  (piktochart).  Here some coffee shop colour palette examples; All these colour palettes are really good examples for cozy, warm and comfortable cafe design. However I want more eye catching and attractive design for costumers which my target audience is Gen Z and I will design in postmodern style.  So I looked for  brighter colours to add my colour palette. I will keep on my mind balancing the colours so I will use also these warm colours and add one or two brighter colour to encolour to cafe. Also colours has ...

Floor Plan

Image
Before I start doing floor planning I researched for average dimensions for all sections and overall. I found average dimensions for small coffee shop and adapted into my floor plan. In the research it says small coffee shop requires 30 to 50 square meters in total. And for seating area it requires at least 10 to 15 square meters for a small seating area and it accommodate around 4 to 6 tables(Dojobusiness.com).  I wanted to put more seating in my project so I chose 75 square meters for overall cafe space. I made a practice floor plan on homebyme and here my floor plan example. I also added some tables and chairs to see how its gonna fit. This is my example for 75 square meters cafe floor plan.    This dimensions are little small for my cafe project so I researched for medium sized cafe dimensions. I found that medium sized cafe is between 1,000 to 1,750 square feet( Mileva,2025).  And this equals to 90 to 160 square meters and accommodating 50 to 70 people. This dim...

Experimentation

Image
In this post I will show some of my design and drawings that I did for experimentation. I was confused with finding concept for my cafe .Then I decided to do a board game cafe that people can also eat food and play at same time with their friends and families. And I drew some space planning for board game cafe design. Also I placed some different seating options in space planning. Here some examples that I did.     Then I draw some concept sketch for board game cafe design. I did it quickly to just see how it is gonna work so the dimensions and perspective is a little mess. I tried to draw coffee counter and the wall behind the counter with food list with prices and table and chair right in front of the coffee counter. But the chairs and tables  a little smaller than it should be because board games which inside of the shelves look bigger than chairs. I mixed up the perspective because of that it is not looking straight but I will develop in my future sketches this a...
