Etsy Dublin by Gensler
In this post I will discuss and talk about the Etsy Dublin workspace which designed by Gensler interior design company. I chose this place and the designer because the furniture that they used in interior are similar to ones that I want to use. Also they used vibrant colourful colour palette around the workspace.
Etsy Dublin office designed in 2023 by Gensler with focus of Irish culture and craftmanship. The design represents sustainability, flexible and collaborative workspace of Etsy with using local sources by local artisans. The design process began with a thorough understanding of Etsy’s mission to “Keep Commerce Human.” The design team focused on creating a workspace that celebrates local craftsmanship and the rich cultural heritage of Ireland (Bryan, 2025). This office designed according to needs of employees. Workspace includes various flexible space such as quiet zones for focused work and vibrant communal areas for collaboration and socialising which are both functional and inspiring.
When I looked at this office design, first two things that caught my attention were vibrant colour palette and curved wooden furniture. In every furniture around the workspace has curved corners and this create a soft and smooth appearance in the space. In addition, the texture of furniture's keep the wooden appearance which makes the space natural and spacious. In the workspace they used special collection called 'Drumlin Collection' for wooden furniture such as reception table, meeting tables and bookshelf.
The reason why the name of this collection is because drumlin means oval-shaped hills which we can see these shapes on the furniture. Irish word droimnÃn meaning “little ridge”, each piece features Jan Hendzel Studio’s signature tactility, playing with texture in both soft and hewn ways. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Irish landscapes, we developed a new body of work, Drumlin.(Jan Hendzel Studio, 2025). Usage of the local sources and inspiration from history is important and valuable for designing an interior and as we can see in this design they came out well.
Another important element of this design is colour palette. They used mostly natural wood texture around the furniture and design in workspace however usage of various colours around the workspace balanced the design. Colourful chairs, sofas, decorations and tiles make the place energised and lively. They used stained glass window to separate two rooms. Using stained glass window instead of wall makes the space more eye-catching and attractive and far from boring. Also it is not completely separating two rooms but still gives privacy between rooms.
Overall, all with matching furniture, decorations and details it is a simple but eye-catching workspace where employees can work comfortably and relax. In addition , the award that they won makes the office even more special. Gensler’s Etsy project in Dublin has recently won the Mix Awards North 2024 Project of the Year, in the Workplace Interiors 30-70k sq ft category. The judges highlighted the project’s unique use of local artists and craftspeople for furniture and finishes, its focus on daylight and biophilia, and its thoughtful incorporation of spaces to support neurodivergent needs (Jan Hendzel Studio, 2025).
In my next post I will talk about breakout space examples that I visited in campus.

Is Gensler a company or an individual - make this clearer.
ReplyDeleteA decent effort here - you have identified several aspects of this design that could be adapted to your project, I think you should look back at this post and consider how you can use this research as inspiration in terms of your use of materials, colour palette and how the space is arranged - for example how, if you need to, could you divide your space?
