Focus Group (Prototyping) Presentation
In this post I will answer some questions about my prototypes that I made.
● Does it work?
It does work but it was harder than I expected to do with prototypes. While making physical prototype it was hard to adapt them in the space with real dimensions.
For digital prototypes it helped me to see my options for furniture. Because with some furniture it was so hard to fit in space so I have to change or remove them especially in ground floor. I wanted to make a recreation area but the games didn't fit that I expected. So I removed some of them and put two games but still I have concerns about the space because people will walk inside the room while other students playing.
● Does it look as you hoped?
I used real dimensions and used 1/50 scale for my prototype . It looked like as I hoped but it can be improved. It is good because I can fit everything that I wanted in this design.
● Is the design working as a whole?
I didn't design the whole area so far but for now with the furniture that I made it worked good. I checked the doors and windows and lift to see if it is blocking the way or not. I placed them with taking all the openings and windows into consideration and I think it worked well.
● What was the process of making the design?
First I measured the space and did the room with mountboard in 3D. Then I cut the doors and windows but I couldn't place them correct because I did the height shorter than I had to do. Then I made some furniture that I will use in this area so I can place them and see the design in whole.
For digital prototypes I used real dimensions and tried to find most suitable furniture in design. I used the same space planning to make things more clear in my head.
● How long did it take? (This should give you an indication of how long your final design will take and a better idea of what you can achieve in the timescale)
For digital prototypes I spend around 3 hours. I researched furniture options in software to see that I can use it or not in future to finalise the project.
It took me 2 or 3 days to complete 3D model I think. Everything was small and I struggled to glue them. However this was just prototype not the whole interior model so it will take more time to finish final model.
● What materials/equipment will you need?
mountboard, cardboard, PVA glue, craft knife and tweezer to combine little pieces
● Have you sourced this?
yes
● What will it cost?
● Which design do you like best?
I liked the sofa design. I can develop this idea and it can be very useful and suitable for break out space.
● What would improve it?
I would change the designs of furniture. I used simple designs to do in prototype but I would change the designs so I can visualise them in space. I would like to try in different scale with different materials.
