Before I decide my colour palette I made some historical research. I wanted to choose my colour palette inspired by the city. I checked some of the city's historical structure , works of art and flags.
First I looked Leicester City Football Club's flag and the flag of the Leicestershire. In both there is fox figure which comes from football club's nickname. Football club's colour palette is blue and orange and these colours are complementary colours . Complementary colours create a vibrant ,balance and dynamic look. Other flag's colour palette is red, white and black, these colours are strong colours and when they used together it creates strong and powerful look as we can see. Also white and red colours were used in DMU's logo.
While I was looking for inspiration I found an artwork that made inspired by city and historical buildings. This fox sculpture called Artie and made by Seema Jaffer who was studying in DMU. 'The colour palette is inspired by Leicester Cathedral’s Richard the Third ‘Redemption’ stained glass window which uses hues of reds, golds, and blues. This has been remixed to reflect the fast developing, colourful, multicultural county of Leicestershire' (Jaffer, 2025).

I looked at the Leicester Cathedral's stained glass windows. Mostly red, blue and yellow tones used on window design. Vibrant tones create wonderful harmony on stained glass windows.
I will use neutral colours with natural and local materials while I'm designing the space. I want to create an energetic and lively environment with vibrant and bright colours like red and blue, as well as neutral tones. I will use same colour palette in two breakout spaces but I will use different tones. More vibrant tones in ground floor (recreation area) , simpler and softer tones in first floor ( relaxing area)
I create some colour palettes to use in my design. I will use this colour palettes for my practical research. I will try these on little concept sketch and see the combination of colours. Then decide my colour palette.
I will use this colour palette for my project.
