Floor Plan

After deciding my space plan I will make floor plan in software. I used Home Styler software for making my floor plan. Before I start making my floor plan I researched average door measurements for university and I considered the wheelchair accessibility. 'The minimum clear opening width for internal doorways should be 900mm when approached from a corridor of 1000mm, allowing for wheelchair access. Doors should be accessible for wheelchair users. The dimensions for such doors are 1981 x 838 x 35mm.' (Robinson, 2024)

Also the doors should be a fire doors to use in emergency. I checked the average fire doors size. 

1981 x 762 x 35mm – often referred to as a 2’6” door is the most common internal door size in England and Wales

1981 x 838 x 35mm – in most circumstances provides the required opening width for wheelchair access under the Part ‘M’ mobility requirements. You may also hear this door size being referred to as a 2’9”  (Enfield, 2025)

After research I decided the sizes of doors, single doors will be 90 cm and double doors will be 160 cm. Then I start making my ground floor's floor plan in Home Styler , first I made the room in real dimensions. Then I added the doors, I didn't change door places. I just changed the direction of the right double door.

Then I made the first floor's floor plan. There is a lift in first floor in corner because of that I checked the lift door sizes also suitable for wheelchair. 'For platform lifts with doors at a 90° angle, we recommend a size of 1100 x 1400 mm to make it easy to turn your wheelchair inside the lift' (Cibes Global, 2025). I decided to make the lift door in 120 cm width. Then I made the floor plan with doors. 

After this I will print out these floor plans and redraw in traditional way then scan and add the dimensions to the walls. I will add the furniture later.
