LOB workplace by Kelly Robinson

In this post I will talk about LOB workplace by Kelly Robinson. I chose Kelly Robinson because she designed many different types of workspaces and I chose her  LOB workplace design because she used colourful office booths in her design. I also want to put remarkable and colourful furniture in my design without making exaggerated and very obvious. I want to use different colours in combination and harmonious way, not in distracting way.

LOB workplace designed in 2020 by Kelly Robinson. She wanted to reflect company's priorities of diversity , collaborations and modernity.  Minimalist style used in this office design with simple and plain furniture ,and not using a lot of decorations and objects in a space. This workplace was designed based on functionality, comfort and aesthetics.

There is a coffee/bar in corner with bar counter and bar stools around it. Also high tables and bar stools used by the windows. Usage of high tables and bar stools are important for quick chats and socialisation. Placing in front of the window is a good place to relax and unwind. Also using floor to ceiling windows is good in  terms of letting the sunlight inside and fresh air. Moreover, floor to ceiling windows or wide windows are important to people who works in office don't feel like they are working in a closed box. Additionally, as we can see in the images there are some TV's around tables and it can be used for fun or inform employees or as a reminder. In the middle of the space there  are two swings made from wooden, the appearance fits with the aesthetic of the environment. Mostly neutral colours used in this part of office and there are not many decoration or accessories around. However, plants and greeneries energised the environment. Also there are other seating options in corner with only sofas and plants.

In contrast to the use of simple and plain colours in the common areas, the chairs in the office room and the seating booths in the social area are designed in colour. This creates a good harmony and energises the environment. 'In getting to know the company, Kelly wanted to reflect their priorities of diversity and inclusion in the design of the space. She chose a circular boardroom table to foster equality vs. hierarchy and Lob rainbow hued chairs and Railway Carriages to help employees of all orientations feel welcome' ( Robinson, 2022). As it told above she wanted everyone feel equal and like family and build strong team spirit in workplace. Railway Carriage is a modular meeting booth inspired by train carriage compartment. These meeting booths offer privacy, collaboration and individual work in focus. These meeting booths are customisable with different material and decoration accessories. Also different lighting types can make the space attractive and eye-catching. Additionally these booths can be adjusted for different spaces such as, offices, public spaces or campuses. 'Acting both as an ideas hub for collaboration as well as a relaxed, focus space for concentration, this office meeting booth has a sleeker aesthetic with a stronger, more modular design' ( Dzaman, 2018)

In conclusion, using plain and simple furniture around the space and use the colours in specific areas to energise the place can be a pleasing and attractive design. Meeting booths are useful for team meetings and individual studies with the close and sound absorbing structure. Also connected structure save space in place and create private zones. I liked the overall minimalist design with coloured furniture combination. There is not many details and decorations , it is simple but an eye-appealing design. I liked the colour usage in this design and I want to use similar like minimalist and plain but colourful in some places.

I will do colour palette  research in my next post.

  1. Check your formatting in the second to last paragraph.

Your student voice is quite patchy in places here - if you paraphrase, use citations.

You don't have any references for this research post!

This post needs better linking to your project and the impact of the research on what you are designing.
